The Youngs in 2003 - Page b
<<<< Back to 2003-a Forward to 2004-a >>>> On the work front, Andrew is finally free of the stresses he has suffered. He was retired from the Civil Service on medical grounds. We welcomed many friends to a retirement party in February. We were especially pleased to see many people from Mikki’s office. We thank them for their support while Mikki was helping Andrew. By the end of the year, Andrew's pension calculation still hadn't been explained to him. He now suspects any amount wrong will not be large enough to put himself to the trouble chasing it. Later in the year, for Halloween, Mikki went into the office as “Maleficent” and raised over £800 for Breast Cancer Awareness. The idea only occurred to her the day before but she quickly raised sponsorship. Perhaps some people thought she would never do it: they didn't know Mikki.
We value highly all our family and we were especially pleased to see Liz and Donna Siddorn several times during the year. We also joined the other Youngs to welcome John back from his year in Vietnam.
In 2002, Andrew was elected Vice Chairman of the Group for Solicitors with Disabilities and completed several projects for them, including a major survey of members’ experiences and opinions; and a proposal for improvements to their World Wide Web site. The Group decided to pursue a different course and Andrew left its Committee in May.
Following changes to voting rights in the City of London, Mikki was proud to retain her right to vote when Barclays Bank nominated her to exercise one of their votes.
